Alrighty, sorry for the delay... here is the breakdown:
Gamebrain: DNF + Mousepad
Parkar: Prey + Mousepad
Kristian: Max Payne
yossa: Duke 3D
Asmodeusz: Shadow Warrior
Kalki and Micki!: Mousepad
Like I said, all the stuff except DNF, Prey, and Max will be sent ASAP. Max has to go overseas to get signed, so that will take a little longer, (Sorry Kristian).

YES!!! Shadow Warrior Baby!!!
It was second on my list, and now that I think of it - I'd rather SW than Prey (because of the wait).
THANKS THANKS THANKS Charlie  !

That was a nice competition, I was targeting to get a copy of DNF but due to an outrageous storm the day of the competition I couldn't access the net and I ended up with nothing . ( I don't know if this could be called bad luck:mryuck : )
but anyway, Congratualtions to everyone and big thanks goes to charlie because he really showed how much he cares about fans .

Hmm, looks like Parkar changed his preference anyway. He had otherwise told me that it was: 1. DNF, 2. Duke3D. Not that Max Payne is a bad prize
And don't worry Charlie, I can wait have been waiting for DNF all these years. This is the first time for me winning anything, so all is cool
Even If I would have prefered Prey

Sorry about that, switched to get the mouse pad. Feel a bit bad about telling you I was picking Duke then switching to Prey knowing that you are a big Prey fan. Since I Picked Prey to be sure I got the mouse pad more then anything I am ok with switching the actual game with Kristian. I don't have MP1 since my brother has the copy we shared when we lived under the same roof so I am planing on getting it anyway(a signed copy would sure be even better).
I can understand if Charlie may not want to start changing the prizes around though.

I'm glad with what i got...
By paying for DNF and Prey, i can support them better...
Can't wait for the mousepad... I've been wanting it for a LONG time...
P.S. Kristian, that's the first time i see you use so many smilies in your posts... Usually, you tend to express yourself with words... Guess it's becasue we all are happy about all this...
P.P.S I agree with dark_angel, i'm glad Charlie cares so much about us fans...

If I get Prey instead of Parkar then I will still be doing that
I will be getting Prey through Game XStream instead of retail then.
And Yes, Charlie, thanks for this awesome contest. You really care for the fans
Edited:
And Micki! you want me to use more smilies in My communications with you, that is noted

Heh, it's not like i WANT you to use smilies... I just noticed the difference, from just now, and any other post...
Anyways, i'm a bit curious about that Game Xstream program...
Appearantly it's somewhat like steam, but i haven't tried that either...
What does it do..? If i buy it in some store, i'd like it with a box, a printed manual, and of course a CD/DVD... But what is Game Xstream doing then..? Is it downloading additional data, which can only be accessed by using the original CD key..? or how is it..?

How Game XStream works depends on the game. First and foremost it is a content delivery system like Steam. However it also allows the option to Stream games like you would with movies or music over the internet.
With Game XStream whether or not a game has got Online authentication is upto the developer. It allows developers to decide if they want it or not and to want extent they want it.

Ahh, that's cool...
So games that you don't own yet, can kinda be "previewed" like a demo..?

No, what it means is you can start playing before the download is completed. Steam has this feature as well btw.

It COULD be used for that. The Beta version has got several Demos. What is intended for is more like that you buy a game of it and start playing within 5 minutes. You can switch back and forth between downloading and streaming at any time.

I don't mind switching... but let me make sure I understand. You'll take Max and Kristian will take Prey, aye?
The point of the mousepads was to provide something now since Prey and Duke weren't out yet. If you both are cool with that then I'm cool with it. It's no different than if I sent them to you as is and then you swapped them yourselves.
As for the contest and caring about the fans... well remember, when Duke 3D came out I was sitting on the other side of the forums, and the 3DR guys were very generous with me. It's nice to be able to give it back in return. You guys have no idea how much your support and never-ending optimism means in the long run for some of us who have stuck out this project for the long haul.

Oh yes we DO know... That's why we're such loyal fans...
On the other hand, we wouldn't be loyal, if it wasn't becasue we DIND'T know... But then again... We were also loyal BEFORE you guys needed this kind of hardcore fan-support...
BUT, that would mean my first point is invalid, as we were loyal from the beginning...
Or did i get it all wrong..?
Crap, i confused myself...

Duke 3D was a great experience. Since I finished it, I would occasionally pop up at the forum (firstly on at the 3DR UBB classic) and see if there is some info on Duke 3D 2. Then I found it was DNF. Then I saw the first stuff in 98. Then more great stuff in 2001. But it was in around 2003 when I got really involved. The screens and vids scrapped, the engine change announced etc. I tought, damn, I've been waiting for 7 years. And it passed so fast. It will make the game even more special now, that I'm waiting a decade. I really got involved with some of the forum people and some devs, (I still remember when I first noticed Charlie - it was his post in this thread. Just phenomenal. Can you not like guys that explain stuff to kids this politely? I don't think you can.) Anyway it is a really nice trip, and I only hope that DNF won't make a hole in my life when released. Cause it surely filled a lot of space through the last ten years. When the day comes... I'LL FRAG UR ASSES ON DUKEMATCH FAGSS!!!! HAHAHA! - just kidding, I relly suck at multiplayer
Nevertheless, I think it'll be a beautyfull day - DNF I mean. But it wouldn't be without Duke 3D wich started it all. Hail to the original king baby. Ten years of kickin alien ass in 3d!!

Haha... that was a crazy thread. The "Bruce Campbell Disses Duke" one was by far the most exhausting internet experience I've ever had. Well tied with one conversation in a developer only board about Resident Evil 4.
I think DNF being out will be a surreal experience for all. I think there will be 3DR developers wandering the halls wondering what to do with themselves, like zombies, heh.

My hardest experience involving threads etc., was to force myself to finnally STFU when I first got my hands on Steam... Geez, it took me so long to put in practice my rational belief that discussing it is just pointless. No matter how much I hate it, some people just don't care or even love it, so yeah it was a challenge. I think it helped me a lot when I deleted HL2 form my computer and came to the conlusion it was some fun, but no story is equal to no buy next time (I mean when someone is actually trying to tell a story or it looks so).
Anyway you got a gift Charlie of just killing with logic. And the more kiddy acting just won't bother to read your bookalike posts haha

My personal lowpoint was a 1-on-1 with Sharp_Invasion on the DNF forum about bot-based Vs. recordable holodukes and which would be the better implementation. Each argument ran into several pages worth of text, even surpassing the largest of your posts according to amazed onlookers. Crazy... and for what? Holodukes, who gives a rat's ass about holodukes?!! *...* Oh wait, I do...

Do what we're doing all this while. Sit on the forums for the feedback, wait till we're done and endure teasing tidbits of how we feel about the game as we progress- until you get our final reviews!

OOOOKAY! I completely suck guys, and I'm sorry for going MIA for so long. I got completely distracted and focused elsewhere and since I have a pretty one track mind it's damn near impossible for me to remember to look up every once in a while.
I've still got the goods... I've still got to get them signed. But, they *will* be delivered even if a bit late. Like I said... I work for 3DR so that shouldn't be a suprise.
I'm all settled into my new home, and I've finally got internet at home, so I'm going to try and set aside a few hours a week to do personal stuff (emails, writing here, etc) which I've neglected for almost a decade now (no exagerration!). Most of the time I've been at 3DR has been 100% at the office and my free time was either working on bonus stuff for the game or getting out of the office and away from computers entirely. Since my apartment was crap (but cheap!) I never enjoyed spending time there. Now I've got a place that is enjoyable to go to... I'm going to get back to the more balanced way. Which is to say 98% work and 2% me instead of 99.5% work and 0.5% me.
Anyways, I imagine most of you have moved on, but this place isn't meant to be much more than a hole in the wall for a couple of us until things can get hopping with DNF someday.

Man, i almost thought your forum died Charlie...
Well, anyways... Now i have got my new PC, and all i need to complete it, is a new keyboard, a new mouse, and of course, my signed Duke3D Mousepad...
Man, i wish a poster would follow with it (i always wanted an official "something" from 3DR, either to wear (T-shirt) or to hang up my wall (poster)... But i guess that's too much to ask for..
I'm btw glad you got to your new place Charlie... Will you please see if you can make some pics of your new home soon, and put them up here on GIS..? I'm wondering how you live...

I avoided putting stuff up about the house publically because there are other guys who live here and I want to respect their privacy as well. I can say that we had a party this weekend with BBQ and swimming, etc. and everyone fell in love with the place.
As for the mouse pad for you and the rest of the stuff for everyone else... hopefully things will make more sense why it has been stalled for so long pretty soon. I'm worried I won't be able to deliver on those promises... at least not exactly as given. I will let you know as soon as I know for sure.
If it doesn't work out then I will look into something different that each person would like... but we'll see.

Just please tell us Charlie that it doesn't have anything to do with DNF's status. Can you at least let us know that development is still going well on the game?

Not DNF's status, no... that is just fine. My own status has changed though. I'm moving on from 3DR. Unsure exactly what I'll be doing next and right now I'm just enjoying a true vacation with no time pressures and no need to do anything except play around. I took Asmo's advice to the extreme... and now have 100% time for myself. I'm kicking the dirt to see what else is out there that I'd be interested in doing once the break is over.
I will miss the team and the project very very VERY much... but it was long past due for me to move on. That is why I couldn't bring myself to do all the signed boxes. I'll be contacting all of the guys who won to see what alternative we can work out.

Nooooooooooo..!
Really sad you must leave Charlie... (i won't post more, since my whole opinion about this is already posted at 3DR)
But damn, still...
I'll still actively lurk around here though... I also hope i get that signed mousepad... That's really something to brag with...
That is, if you can get it signed at all... Then, i'd at least, have it signed by You, with your name on it, somewhere... Better than nothing i say...
I wish you luck with whatever you think of doing next Charlie...
I wonder, when the Day DNF comes out, if i can point out which stuff is the "things-made-by-Charlie" if possible...

That is terrible news. You will be greatly missed. I'm sorry to see you're leaving the DNF team... I hope you're leaving because you're done with your part, rather than because you had to abandon your work because of complications.

Thanks for the supportive thoughts guys.
Micki!... unless they restart the project there will be plenty of me still in there. I'm very proud of the work I did while there and I honestly can't express how much the creative freedom 3DR offered meant to me. Anyone who wishes to expand their talents can do so and have a good environment to do so.
Interactivity is my favorite part of FPS games and the main part of the industry I've wanted to have an influence on for years. I was trying to do that while at Ritual on Sin and DNF gave me the chance to push that way beyond what I had imagined... along with having other people to work with who were just as excited by it. George has given tiny tastes in the past of what we were aiming for... and I'll always be proud of the work we put into that and the chance to fully explore those aspects of game development.
Yatta, SyntaxN, and Kaiser... fingers crossed that where ever I do wind up I'll have a less obsessive schedule and can be more active around these parts. I've missed my gaming community roots for a while. Making maps for my own enjoyment and releasing them to the public would be a blast. No idea if that will be realistic but it is something I'd love to do again.

Hi Charlie,
Just wanted to pop in and say I admire what you're doing, it's a brave move and is exactly what I have just done with my life! It feels so good to escape the routine sometimes and the release of being your own boss is a nice feeling isn't it?
I have just spent the last few months chilling out after working intensly for about 5 years, and in that time gradually let my work consume 99% of my life. But now im doing alot of personal projects which I would never had been able to try before and am enjoying doing bit of freelance on the side.
Anyway good luck with whatever you do with your life mate, and enjoy all ya free time!

Well Charlie,
I have been following your work for over 8 years and will continue because I think you are one of the best game creaters on this earth. I hope you let us know (when DN4ever ever it goes public) what part you did. I remember how you helped on the Shadow Warrior Add on " Wanton Destruction" with the Train blowing up at the station. You gave me so much ideas back then.
Good luck in your new work you go into.
Kasai
(I think that was the nick name you may have remembered me by)
